Welcome back everyone to the latest installment in my Artist of the Week series, I know it’s been a while since the last one but life and work have been crazy busy lately.
No promises on how frequently I’ll be doing this series, it’s all gonna be based on how much free time I have and which artist I can get for this series, at the least it’ll be one a month.
Without further ado, let’s get into this week’s guest, this week I have the pleasure of presenting to you one of my favorite upcoming artists who just dropped an incredible album a few weeks ago, tonyxtrotter.
Tony has been making quite the moves lately, from being named a Rapzilla Freshman of 2025, to recently being announced that he would be performing at this year’s upcoming Holy Smoke festival as part of the cypher.
Hot off the heels of releasing his second album/debut album under Rapzilla entitled THE ART OF GETTING UP, Tony is gearing up to have quite the amazing year, so you might find yourself asking what about Tony or even this album should make me want to listen to it, the answer? One of the most authentic and realest albums I’ve heard in a minute, from the opening track to the closing track, Tony weaves together an intricate story/look into his life and faith.
Unashamedly bold about Jesus in his lyrics, Tony seeks to reach people who don’t know God and also help the ones who do know God but have gone through hard times in life to truly know about God and the impact He’s had on his life.
Themes about pride, comparison, losing his father and finding peace amongst the grief, having honest conversations with God about hurt, grief and difficult times that he’s gone through.
The result?, one of the realest albums you’ll ever hear and an album that will make my personal top 5 albums of the year. Tony isn’t your average rapper and the intro track alone proves that, with intricate rhymes, a unique flow and lyrics that point the listener back to God.
Tony is a one of a kind artist and what I mean by that is there’s something very inspiring about seeing and hearing an artist who’s as authentic as Tony is, he wears his heart on sleeve, which in turn pours into his writing.
Someone who contemplated quitting rap just for God to turn around and show him that rap was indeed his calling, from his album dropping a week earlier than it was supposed to, overwhelming responses from fans and friends about how much they enjoyed the project and how much it resonated with them. To submitting a song to DJ Mykael V’s twitch stream and being named one of six who will perform on the cypher at the biggest Christian Hip Hop festival in the world, Holy Smoke!.
All signs from God showing Tony that he’s meant to continue pursuing his music career and that God is without a shadow of a doubt working through him and his music.
