After having the chance to interview Josephgodchosen for our Independent Artist Spotlight, I got to know the man behind the mic — and I can say with confidence, what you hear in his music is 100% real. Joseph is currently incarcerated, yet he continues to write and record music from his prison cell, using his art as both therapy and testimony. His song “I’m a Christian” isn’t just a track — it’s a mission statement.
Lyrically, Joseph doesn’t sugarcoat a thing. From the opening bars, he’s boldly proclaiming who he is, who he serves, and what he stands for. There’s a repeated emphasis on identity — being unashamed of his faith, even in a place where it might be hardest to hold onto it. He spits lines like battle cries, calling out hypocrisy, resisting temptation, and making it clear that he’s living this walk even behind bars.
One thing I respect deeply is how he keeps it grounded in truth without sounding preachy. He’s not trying to impress anyone with wordplay or metaphors — he’s telling you exactly what God did for him, where he came from, and where he’s headed. There’s a rawness in the way he raps, like each line is being spoken directly from experience. You hear lines about repentance, spiritual warfare, and transformation, and they hit differently because you know they’re lived, not just written.
The beat stays minimal, which I think was a smart choice — it gives Joseph’s voice and message space to lead. No distractions. Just him, his truth, and his God.
“I’m a Christian” is more than just a bold title — it’s a personal creed. And knowing Joseph personally now, I can tell you: this isn’t a gimmick or a phase. This is a man who’s using his time to impact others, and he’s doing it one verse at a time. If you listen with your heart open, this song just might stir something in you too.
