“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.”

There’s an old saying that says, “looking for love in all of the wrong places.” I’m sure we all can be touched with that statement. We’ve been in wrong places with the wrong people just searching. I don’t just mean that there are places you shouldn’t go, but more so that our motives can be off and we surround ourselves with the wrong people. No matter where we are we are in the wrong place.
Our heart can be out of line with the will of God and we’re operating in our own strength trying to make something happen. The motive is only self satisfaction and not the glory of God. We’re looking for what we can gain and not how we can be used by God.
God shows us in His word that real love is sacrificial. That it seeks to give away to others. Even sometimes to the point that it suffers for the benefit of others. God the Father gave us Jesus to suffer for our sins and to redeem us when we couldn’t redeem ourselves. This is our example of love.
Parents have children and give up things or work extra hours or take on a part time job to provide for their children. They sacrifice themselves to for the benefit of someone else. Our deeds should be motivated by love. If they are motivated by love then they are done in truth. If they are done in truth they bring light and reveal God. These are all attributes of God. Love, truth and light. As children of God these are the attributes that should be in our lives so that we can share Christ with the world.
