“Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, but others Elijah, and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.”
Matthew 16:13-18 NRSV
Knowing your identity in Christ is important to moving forward in God’s purpose for your life. Not just understanding it in the moment right now, but where it started and where it will end.
First, we come to faith in Christ by acknowledging who God is and what He has done for us through Christ Jesus. It is the finished work of Christ that has put us in a place of grace. A place of undeserved privilege.
Faith in what Christ has done for us leads us to know that He is an ever present help. That helper leads us and guides into all truth and cements our future. That is why we call Him the Rock of Ages. The truth of who He is, what He has done and where He is taking us never changes. It is the foundation of our walk with God that leads us into eternity. Christ is the rock that is firm and can never be shaken.
That leads us to our Throwback Song of the Week. This one comes from another member of the Tunnel Rats Crew – Sev Statik. This is from his 2002 album “Speaklife.” The featured track is called “Rock of Ages.” Tune into the Trackstarz show this week to hear DJ Jeremaya spin this song for the Throwback Theology Song of the Day. Until next time…
Peace and blessings,
