Back in high school me and my best friend Chris we’re both heavy into music. Neither one of us were serious musicians or singers but we loved music. One of the things Chris was known for was his slow jam mixtapes. They were on actual cassette tapes. TDK, Maxell, Sony, you name it.
One of the things we would talk about was what songs would be on the soundtrack of our lives. This was BC (Before Christ), so none of our songs were gospel songs. I remember one of my songs being “My Pain” by Tupac Shakur. It was a song that just resonated with me. Even as a teenager.
That is to say just like we looked to music to find a piece of who we are and how I connected to a person like Tupac; we are to do this even more so in our relationship with Christ. We are to look into His word and in music that glorifies Him to see pieces of who we are. When we find it lift it up to Christ and share our soundtrack of God’s goodness with the world.
That leads us to our Throwback Song of the Week. This one comes from a vet in the theological rap game – Stephen The Levite. This is from his 2006 album “To Die Is Gain.” The featured track is called “My Life’s Soundtrack.” Tune into the Trackstarz show this week to hear DJ Jeremaya spin this song for the Throwback Song of the Day. Until next time…
Peace and blessings,
