“First pride, then the crash— the bigger the ego, the harder the fall.”
We all aspire to go higher. To excel to be something great. It is engrained in us. We go through the obstacles and struggles of life to reach a goal. Nobody, even if they’re doing something evil, aspires to be the worst at something. No one ever wanted to be in the NFL or the NBA to be the worst player in history. Even if you’re not considered the greatest ever you still want to be good.
On that journey to greatness there is something that gets in the way that even a little bit of it can cause a lot of damage. It’s pride. Pride is like when you’re climbing a mountain, placing your foot on a spot without looking first and falling. You fell because you didn’t make sure that your next step was stable to hold you.
I’m sure we’ve heard the saying, “Pride comes before the fall.” That comes straight out of Proverbs 16. It’s not a literal fall, but in a figurative sense. You have gotten to an elevated place, but because of your ego it has caused you to fall. It is why we kneel when we pray to God. It is symbolic. It is a show of humility. I lower myself so that God is lifted up.
If you look back in Genesis 3 when Eve is deceived. The characteristics she saw in the forbidden fruit aren’t bad, what’s bad is that she is considering something that God told her she can’t have. Pride will have you looking at things that God clearly said no to and have you biting into it. IT will tell you that you can handle it, but you really can’t. Once you have it then begins the fall from grace.
That is why stay in the word, in prayer and be led by the Spirit of God to keep our minds sober. That way we can call out those things in us when we see them and not allow them to take root in our hearts.
That leads us to our Throwback Theology Song of the Week. This group now might be better known by its individual parts than altogether. The members are JuanLove, female emcee Butta P and K-Nuff aka Konata Small. Konata and Butta P would both go on to drop solo projects after the group disbanded. The featured song is off of their 2010 project called “Fingerprints”. The featured song is a banger called “Blow Your Whistle”. Tune into the Trackstarz show this week to hear DJ Jeremaya spin this for the Throwback Theology Song of the Day. Until next time…
Peace and blessings,
