“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.””
Count to 10 (1..2..3..4..5..6..7..8..9..10), close your eyes and take a deep breath. Inhale. Exhale. It feels so good. Taking that moment to block everything out and focus on breathing. I know these are some methods used in meditation. This is not just meditation on some random higher power, the energy around us or the universe. This is focus on our God who is the creator of the universe. Our mighty Lord and savior Jesus Christ and His word.
God says in Isaiah 26 “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you.” Isaiah 26:3 NLT Despite what some may think our God is a God of peace. He is a comforter and shelter in a time of storm. The restorer of our souls. He is not looking to wear us down, beat us up or punish us. He loves us and only wants the best for us. He wants our focus on Him and the things of the kingdom. This brings us peace and allows us to be used to the maximum capacity.
There’s an old Flip Wilson saying “the devil made me do it.” Well that’s not true. The devil only presents and persuades. He distracts us from the main thing to focus on something to get us off course. The distractions bog us down, because they get our focus off and they don’t fulfill us on the inside. So they leave us worn out and unfulfilled. That’s why we have the good news. Jesus comes to save us now!
Yes we have the hope of going to Heaven when we die. That’s all well and good, but we don’t get saved and immediately die and go to Heaven. We still have a life to live here now. Jesus by His Spirit comes in and starts working in our lives now. So we don’t have to get dragged down with distractions or the cares of this life. We can look to our savior in prayer or through His word and just breathe.
