Lojique – “Language Arts”| Throwback Theology| @lojique2017 @trackstarz

I know some may look at the name and think of the young rapper out of Maryland. Nope. Not about him. Shout out to Logic, because he’s got skills. Sorry if you’re disappointed, but he is not the subject at hand. Plus, he spells his name with a C and not a Q-U-E at the end. The topic of this article is a an early 2000’s Christian hip hop group called Lojique.

This was a trio that I think played very well in the balancing of music that is raw enough to almost be considered battle rap, but Christian enough for just the casual hip hop listener. You could hear the difference from secular hip hop. Again, the debate about being too preachy in your music vs not has been around for a long time. This was a group that I felt made you just stop and say, “Yo! They are dope!” Then that was the end of the discussion.

Lojique came on the scene in 2001 with their debut project entitled “Language Arts”. The group consisted of 3 rappers named Nickels, Othello and Page One. Imagine A Tribe Called Quest if Ali hopped on the mic every once in a while and gave you a hot 16. That is what this group reminded me of. The main rappers being Othello and Page One.

As a group, they fizzled out around 2004-2005 time frame. They continued to do music apart. Mainly Othello (now known as Ozay Moore) who dished out a few solo projects. Even as recently as 2010. This is definitely a group that pioneered CHH and gave a good balance of truth and bars to knock you out of your seats.  The song I chose for this article is called “Methodical”.  Personally, one of my favorites off of the album and in hip hop period.  It is from their debut project.  Check it out and let us know what you think. Until next time.

Peace and blessings.
