We’ve talked about the past and the present of CHH. What is the future? Where is this thing going? We’ve endured the early stages of the genre being considered only as corny and even ungodly. We’ve even made some small steps to break into the mainstream. I feel like CHH is growing up. We have many facets of the music that are accepted. We have our theological rappers, non-theological rappers, the socially conscious and even battle rap has really come to the forefront. I personally would like to see more progress in mainstream. I’ve stated before that hip hop is a very raw and aggressive music. In using it to reach people with the gospel, it does it in ways that is not conventional to more conservative crowds. There are some who feel that all of the evangelism we do should fit within the confines of a church service. Some things don’t fit into that structure, but that doesn’t mean they’re not effective in drawing people to the cross of Christ.
Apostle Paul put it like this, “Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.” (1 Corinthians 9:22-23 NLT) I think CHH is in a good place that the artists are fulfilling this scripture. It’s not one dimensional. It’s hitting different angles of the hip hop culture. The rappers are top notch and the music is high quality. Also, outside of the music, I think we’re doing better as a community. Regardless of what we do in the body of Christ, it is vital to have a community of believers to encourage and sharpen each other in the faith. The Bible says, “And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:25 NLT) Typically, this verse is used in reference to attending church. I think it’s bigger than that. I think that in CHH we are now fulfilling the call of God in that we as believers are coming together in unity and others can see the love we have for each other and are drawn in.
This isn’t a throwback, but this song was a big inspiration for me writing this article and is done by an artist I feel is helping CHH propel into its future. It’s by Ruslan and it’s off of his latest project “Americana”. Regardless of what we do, let’s just give it all to the Lord. It belongs to Him anyway. Check out the song and let us know what you think. Until next time, be encouraged.
