I recently had the pleasure of interviewing William Pippins for another installment of my “Independent Artist Spotlight” series. After a four-year hiatus from making music, William has made a triumphant return. His reemergence is particularly significant for Hip Hop, as his message and music are much needed in the genre today.
I recently reviewed his latest album, “No Writers Block,” which marks his first full-length release since his return. From beginning to end, this project stands out as an exceptional body of work. In an era where music often lacks its former quality, William’s album brings listeners back to a more familiar and comfortable soundscape that we have been missing.
For those who appreciate true lyricism, a meaningful message, and eclectic beats, this album is a must-listen. The tracklist of “No Writers Block” is remarkable, beginning with the song “Matter of Time.” This opening track has a spoken word feel that I find compelling. During my time managing artists, they frequently began their sets with spoken word pieces, emphasizing the substance of their message and capturing the audience’s attention. William similarly draws us into the album with this engaging approach.
William then takes us on a journey, discussing real-life issues, the music industry, news outlets, and music in general. Track 7, “Reveal,” is a personal favorite of mine. The beat captivated me, but it was William’s flow that truly impressed. The hook delivers an honest admission that resonates deeply: “Sometimes I walk around acting like I have it all together, but sometimes deep down I don’t even know who I am. Reveal it to me.” This vulnerability is something many can relate to, myself included.
By the time you reach track 12, you may feel acquainted with William or at least understand parts of his story. However, to gain a complete picture, I encourage you to listen to his testimony in our “Independent Artist Spotlight” interview available at this link.
You can stream “No Writers Block” on all digital music platforms or purchase it wherever music is sold. To explore William Pippins’ full catalog, visit his Spotify artist profile at the link below.
