What’s going on everyone!! So for this week, I was hit by this statement: God calls us to be, not to do. We get this mentality that when we become a Christian, we get into God’s good graces as a result of doing good deeds. Helping people and serving at your church are wonderful aspects to the faith walk, don’t get me wrong, but if we are lacking a heart for God to be glorified over any personal agenda of our own, then we are just giving lip service and not really living out our faith. Our walk with the Lord should be one of daily, consistent heart change, not just “holy deeds”. I am reminded of this line that KB, a popular Christian Hip Hop artist said. He says, “Once you’ve really seen the Lord, you’re obsessed with what you’ve seen”. This is so true for our daily lives. Our main objective is to grow closer and closer to the heart of God, where it deeply affects our heart so that we can live a life that stems from a genuine heart change, not just a switch up of actions.
I am reminded of a verse in scripture, Psalm 37:4. It says, “Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart”. To be real with you all, I hear so many Christians use this verse as an excuse to make God out to be a sort of vending machine. That if we press the right buttons, He will dispense our blessing out to us. That is so far from the truth. What this verse is really saying, is that when we delight ourselves in Christ, He will become the desire of our heart, and thus give us more of Himself when we seek Him and learn more about His character. Now that is some preaching right there!! hahahaha
But on a serious note, God doesn’t ask us to just switch our actions. He wants us to be on fire for Him, so that when the world see us, they see passionate, loving, purposeful people who have more to live for than just doing good things all the time. Is it a hard task? Absolutely. Is it worth it? Absolutely. Eternity with our Savior is in our sights, but while we are here on earth, let us draw near to our Heavenly Father, and experience a piece of Heaven on earth. We are called to be disciples of Christ with our hearts, not just our deeds.
Much love,
Ryan W.
