Hip hop is way to speak on different subjects. Many times, the subject matter can be easy and simple to understand and take in. Other times, the subject matter can be hard and even extremely dark. This was the case for Bobby Bishop’s “Amy’s Song.” In the song, we hear a story of rape and sexual assault. Bobby does an excellent job of setting the scene with his lyrics, as we see the story unfold visually. As we see Amy getting help from her support/small group, we also see her struggling with dealing with what happened to her. We watch her as she regains her confidence and strength back through Christ!
At the end of the day, this video/subject matter is still relevant today. Even though the video looks older, the concept has and flow has aged well. As we look at the current sex scandals with various celebrities (Bill Cosby and Donald Trump…allegedly), we see that women are being taken advantage of. This song shows those who have been affected by assault on how to deal with it. Many people have a “Amy’s Story” and we should be in prayer for them (male and female). Thank you Bobby for making a song that may deal with darkness, but can show the light at the end of the tunnel. Spread The Soup!
