Do you ever sit down to read the bible or stop to pray and feel you can’t focus, or when you start to read you feel you aren’t hearing from God? It may be because you have so much on your mind or maybe you are multitasking and it is distracting you. Some of us get ready for work, drive to work, do chores and etc while we pray or listen to the audio bible on YouVersion. All of this is ok, but I have found stopping all activities and being still allows me to really soak in all He has to say.
I believe on the days when we feel we have a lot on our minds and have a lot on our to-do list, we can ask God to clear those thoughts and ask Him what He wants to reveal to us.
One of the many beauties of God is that He is with us no matter where we are. When we sit down to read and pray, we are sitting down with God, no matter where we are. The bible is real and a living communication with God. The bible, the book of peace is alive and will speak to our hearts and minds. When we sit down with God, we can come in expectation to communicate with Him. He is there, sitting with us, exciting to communicate with us and He is well pleased. For example, if you were meeting a friend for lunch, would you show up to the table in dead silence without greeting your friend? I don’t think you would. That would be really awkward! Haha! You would greet them with warm affection and a hello! You are excited to have a time to hang out with them. You sometimes greet with a hug, a handshake and typically for me, a big smile! God loves for us to greet Him as well and He greets us. He is ready and excited to hang out with us. You see, God pursues us and created us to have a friendship with Him. If you feel distracted or God is silent, TRUST, He is right there. If you have been having difficulty lately, this might help you connect with Jesus your Friend.
As you sit down start by your TRUST in Him:
Thank Jesus for His Presence. “Thank you God that you not only meet me when I sit with You, but you are with me always. You greet me with a big smile. Thank you for giving me peace and clearing my thoughts as I read, because you replace them with thoughts of peace and love.”
Revelation. “Thank You God for the revelation You are going to show me and speak to me during our time together.” Thanking Him in advance.
Use me. “God may I ask You show me how You want to use me in Your Plan. You have a plan and Purpose for my life and each day all I want to do is walk in that.” Everyday might look different. Maybe God wants you to simply keep smiling to everyone you come in contact with that day. Saying Good Morning, Good Afternoon…showing His Love to others. Other days it could be making that decision you need to make. He will show you. God’s got the answers you’re looking for, just ask. 🙂
Strength-“God please Strengthen my mind, will and emotions.” Our minds are not intended to be a battle ground for the enemy. The enemy can get to our mind if we let him, which can affect our will and emotions. Each day when we wake, sleep and even throughout the day, we can ask God to protect our mind, will and emotions.
Teach- “Teach me to keep keepin on God.” It is the only way to true joy. Happiness is fleeting but the Joy He can only give is everlasting.
