In honor of Lecrae performing on this year’s B.E.T. hip hop awards, I decided to go back and look at the first time Lecrae graced the hip hop awards show. Everyone loves watching the B.E.T. hip hop awards for the cyphers. I literally know people who only watch it just to see who is rapping in the cyphers. In 2011, Lecrae walked into the lion’s den and “roared” for the CHH community. Rapping over James Brown’s “The Payback” (or Total’s “Can’t you see“… they sampled it the best), Lecrae gave some memorable bars flipping one of biggie’s most famous lines, becoming a slave for “whips and chains” and a Derrick Rose reference that may make bull fans cry now. At the end of the cypher, Lecrae stood above everyone in the cyper (lyrically and physically) and he did the same as he performed on the main stage this year as well. Keep it up Lecrae.
